The Bexar County Medical Society held its 14th annual ‘Making the Rounds’ Golf Tournament the first of May, with approximately 150 golfers at the Quarry Golf Club. The tournament was a Florida Scramble, with two shotgun starts: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
As part of the tournament, there were a number of contests. One was the helicopter ball drop. Tickets were sold at the tournament and over 300 golf balls were dropped on the 10th hole. This year’s winner of the $3,000 travel certificate was Dr. Rajam Ramamurthy. For both the morning and afternoon flights, there was also a “closest to the pin” contest sponsored by GolfTec, a longest drive contest sponsored by Cavender Audi, and a “hole-in-one” contest – on two different holes – sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
Over $50,000 was raised at this year’s tournament! All proceeds from the tournament contribute to scholarship awards for high school students who wish to go into the medical field. This year the foundation will award $58,000 in scholarships to area students.
The hope of the BCMS Foundation is to continue to grow this event. Special thanks to all the physicians, alliance members, sponsors, and Circle of Friends who took time out of their busy schedules to come and be a part of the activities. We’re already planning for 2009 and look forward to building on our relationships to help students pursue their education.
The event was made successful in large part due to our generous sponsors including our title sponsor Humana, platinum sponsor Texas MedClinic, and helicopter ball drop sponsor Texas Medical Association Insurance Trust.
The Foundation was created in 1995 by the Bexar County Medical Society (a physician membership organization) and the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance (spousal organization) as the philanthropic arm of the Bexar County Medical Society. BCMS’ mission is to support healthcare issues in the San Antonio community and increase educational opportunities in healthcare careers. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded hundreds of thousands of
dollars in scholarships to area students pursuing careers in the medical, nursing and other healthrelated careers, as well as grants to community organizations.
The Annual Golf Tournament and Gala are supported by ticket sales and sponsorships. If you or your organization would like to become a sponsor of one or both events, please contact Lisa Robertson, BCMS Foundation Manager, phone: (210) 301-4398 or e-mail: lisa.robertson@bcms.org.
